Samsung HDTV HL-R5078W HDTV Details

Get every pixel the highest of the high definition TV formats has to offer with Samsung's HLR5078W 50" 1080p native resolution widescreen HDTV television set. This DLP (Digital Light Processing) TV is capable of displaying all 2,073,600 pixels in its 1920 x 1080p format. That's more than twice the resolution of the 720p (1280 x 720) format. So what happened to the 1080i (i for interlaced) format? 1080p (p for progressive) goes it one better. Although both 1080i and 1080p offer the identical 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, the interlaced format first paints the odd-numbered lines of resolution on the screen, followed in a fraction of a second by the even-numbered lines. The progressive scan format displays all the lines of resolution sequentially in a single pass, making for a smoother, cleaner image, with reduced flicker. The days of diminished picture quality on larger screen TVs are history. With top-of-the-line high definition video conversion, Samsung's HLR5078W turns programming of any format into a captivating, theatre-quality experience.

The HL-R5078's DLP chipset not only delivers finer resolution than past models, but is much less likly to exhibit "dithering" noise — usually seen as moving pixels in solid-colored backgrounds like a wall or the sky. The chips improved contrast, is enhanced by the dynamic iris. Overall, resulting in a picture that is very sharp, colorful, and remarkably three-dimensional.

Big-screen TVs based on 1080p chipset technology have only been around for a couple of months. Prior to that, digital big screens had resolutions of about 720p. The difference in resolution is substantial. 720p images have about a million pixels (1280 x 720), while 1080p images have about two million (1920 x 1080). That doesn't mean that a 1080p set will look twice as good as a 720p set, but 1080p should look more detailed and seamless. And since 1080i is the most common format for HDTV signals, you should be able to see programs at that resolution with no loss of detail, unlike 720p sets, which have to "downconvert" 1080i.  The Samsung HL-R5078W HDTV is a clear cut winner by any viewer's standards.  This HDTV is a champion of champions!
